"Night at the Muesem"

Jiangsu Province and the state of Victoria has been sister cities for 40 years, recently the market and propagandistic manager Katrina Lin from Museum Victoria under the accompany of Eva who was the principal of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism Australia Promotion Center, visited the most famous museums of Nanjing.

The first station is Nanjing Presidential palace which was the palace of emperors since Ming and Qing dynasties with a history of more than 600 years.On 1 January 1912, Dr Sun Yat-sen sworn as the Provisional President in the Presidential Palace. During the following 15 years, here became the Official Residence of the Jiangsu Military Governors, the Vice-Presidents Office and so on. In 1927, the Nanjing National Government was established and here became the government offices. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, here was still the national government and the presidential office space. Presidential Palace has many historical relics and a beautiful scenery. 


The Oriental Metropolitan Museum shows the history, culture and all aspects of the Six Dynasties. The museum is designed by Jianzhong Bei whose father Yuming Bei is one of the most well-known architect in the world. Next is the Jiangning Imperial Silk Manufacturing Museum, if you once read the novel Dream of Red Mansion, you may be interested in this museum, because it’s about the life of writer Xueqin Cao.


The last station is Nanjing Museum. Nanjing Museum, the first large national comprehensive museum in China, is located in the south of Purple Mountain, Nanjing City and the south of Zhongshan Gate, taking an area of 70,000, with two exhibition halls (history exhibition hall and for art exhibition hall) taking 35,000construction area, both of them being splendid palatial architecture stimulating the architectures in Liao Dynasty, trees and grasses full of the museum decorated by various stone inscription relics, with cultural landscape and natural landscape formed a delightful contrast.


After all the itinerary of museums, Katrina said that she was very interested in those museums and if she had chance , she would visit them all next time! There were lots of difference between museums of Nanjing and Australia, she hoped both side would have more and more cooperation and activities in the future.
